Brenda Howard's Art

For Brenda painting is an expression of place, feeling and connection to the environment. It's most enjoyable when  the experience comes out on the canvas without thought or judgment. The desire is to capture the essence of the moment.  Sometimes the images that evolve are surprising.

Living in the moment is what she wants to experience in life and in her art.  Strong, complimentary colors express that vibrancy best. Often her paintings are thick with paint and texture.

Formal training was at Michigan State University, Wayne State University and  Center for Creative Studies.  When she moved from Michigan to Rhode Island she joined a plein air painting group at Rhode Island School of Design.  Although she had painted all her life, that experience was the turning point in her work. 

Georgia O'Keffe said it best "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for."
